Munstream.Adventure: Snake Creek Recreation Area

We lucked into a three day holiday over the Fourth of July. We had a site booked at Snake Creek Recreation Area near Platte on the Missouri River and had a lovely (sweaty) weekend. We left immediately after camp on Friday evening so didn't get set up at our campsite until after dark, but had enough time to settle around a campfire. The stars were incredible. The kids went to bed early but Dave and I stayed up late chatting by the campfire. There is something so peaceful about that atmosphere; dark, quiet, no distractions, its was great after a busy month.

We woke up Saturday morning and rode our bikes around the camp grounds. We were helping Piper to be more in control of her brakes and use her back break rather than her feet. Unfortunately, she learned the hard way. She got going down a hill and couldn’t stop and crashed right into a parked pick-up truck, thank God she had her helmet on. It gave her (and all of us) quite the scare. After calming her down and talking about the lesson she learned, she got back on and before we knew it, she had it all figured out. We had lunch at the campsite and went to the nearby beach for a swim. The waves were pretty fierce, the kids hopped on their floaties and braved the waves, with constant interjections from us. We returned to the campsite for dinner and then made our way back to the beach and a calmer sunset swim. 

Sunday was the Fourth and it was hot. So hot. We had lunch at Marina 44 in order to avoid the heat and then went to the beach near the marina. The only reprieve from the heat was being in the water, the kids loved it. We made the Titanic out of our floaties and played make believe with bouie ice burgs, it was so much fun. We packed it up after a few hours of fun and the temp in the truck was 107, the kids couldn’t believe it. We tried to pop into town for ice cream but the shop was closed so returned to the camper which was SO hot. It’s able to keep the temp down about 20 degrees, so as you can imagine, the coolness felt great, but was barely cutting it. We had dinner in the camper and made our way back to the beach. The kids swam until 9:45pm, it was magical. 

We hit the road relatively early on Monday and had our most successful Airstream parking event to date, better and better each time… then Maggie and I met out there a few days later to clean it all up and ended up making a girls night out of it. The simple things.
